Grades 8 and 9 – Building a Solid Foundation: It’s crucial to understand the key foundational principles of Accounting in grades 8 and 9. I’ve found that students often struggle at this stage because they haven’t grasped the basics, such as debits and credits or the accounting equation. I ensure we lay a solid foundation, especially for those planning to continue with Accounting in higher grades.
Grade 10 – Mastering the Core Concepts: Grade 10 is where Accounting ‘proper’ begins. Many parents and learners don’t realise that concepts introduced in Grade 10, like adjustments and financial statements, are actually covered in first-year university. I make sure you develop a thorough understanding of these concepts before moving on to Grades 11 and 12.
Grade 11 – Preparing for the Future: Universities often use Grade 11 marks to assess a student’s aptitude for their chosen field. I’ve noticed that more schools are now incorporating Grade 12 concepts into the Grade 11 syllabus to better prepare learners. Therefore, a strong grasp of these concepts is essential for achieving good marks in Grade 11 and setting you up for success in Grade 12.
Grade 12 – Achieving Your Distinction: In Grade 12, we tackle unique concepts such as those related to companies, cash flow statements, and stock systems. I’ve had many students who started lessons later in the year express that they wish they had started sooner, as they begin to understand these more difficult concepts for the first time. Over the years, I’ve helped numerous Grade 12 learners achieve distinctions they thought were impossible.
